The Dying Gaul Statue

Description of The Dying Gaul Statue
The Dying Gaul is an ancient Roman marble statue now in the Capitoline Museums in Rome. The original was a bronze sculpture from the Hellenistic period.
A replica of the Dying Gaul statue is pictured here, showing a Gallic warrior wounded in battle and a dying state. The dying Gaul is sitting naked and slumped; his body tilts to the right, his right hand struggling to support the ground, and his other arm weakly placed on his bent leg. He tries to get back on his feet and fight his enemies. The warrior has a typical Gallic hairstyle and mustache. Underneath his body is a shield protecting him. His weapon is at his side, and the right side of his body is stabbed.
